Iran: Wild Walk in the Highlands of Talesh
10 days, Sat 22 May 2010 to Mon 31 May 2010
From our experience, Iran is one of the most misunderstood countries on earth and it is our mission to dispel many of the clichéd preconceptions as we travel through this fascinating country. This trek enables us to intimately experience this rarely visited corner of the world, far from the Iran that is portrayed in the media.
The Wild Walk takes us to the Highlands of Talesh, part of the Alborz Range that rises up from the Caspian Sea. We start by travelling to Rasht, the capital of Gilan province, and from there onto Anzali where we can visit the lively market. The trek takes in both the stunning mountain scenery as well as visiting the local Taleshi. The Talesh are pastoral nomads who have spent their summers on these high pastures tending to their herds for thousands of years. Staying with the local Talesh in their semi permanent homes known as chapars, we will experience their warm hospitality and excellent local cuisine.
