Niger: Across the Tenere Camel Trek (Wild Expedition)
21 days, Fri 06 Nov 2009 to Thu 26 Nov 2009
Camping under star-studded skies, we will leave the regional capital of Agadez to meet the camel caravan, already laden with goods to trade for salt and dates, and move on out into the broken country to the west of the Arbre du Ténéré. Bound for the pretty oasis town of Bilma at one of the major ancient trading crossroads in the very heart of the Sahara, we’ll head into the Great Bilma Sand Sea. As our little caravan picks its way steadily among the sweeping Ténéré dunes following the famous time honoured caravan route, we can soak up the peace of the desert, become a part of this centuries old way of life and immerse ourselves in the rhythm of the journey as our Tuareg guides and camel handlers lead us beyond Fachi to the lush green palms of our destination.
This is truly a journey of ancient times untouched by the trappings of our modern world.
