Jay Ramji - Wakhan Corridor Trek: Tajikistan & Afghanistan
I feel very humbled by the many experiences I’ve had in the Wakhan, and at the same time privileged to have had such a brilliant adventure in a very remote part of the world,in a country which is riddled with conflict. I felt very safe in this part of Afghanistan, not once did I feel threatened in any way. The highlights? Too many to mention but here goes : Trek up to Kotal E Warum pass (amazing views). Visiting a Wakhi home and to see the family life. Sarhad E Broghil (interesting place with lots of walks around-enjoyed my spare day there). Meeting local people. Overall a great adventure!

The stunning, wild beauty of Afghanistan took my breath away as we ventured on a thrilling on and off-road trip along the Wakhan corridor. The friendliness and hospitality of these dignified people is extremely touching and the smiles and laughter of the children will stay with me forever. I really liked the charm of the Homestays and meeting the families running them... it felt like you were seeing the culture at close hand. Our tour leader Mette was superb. Very helpful, organised and good fun. Good knowledge of the area and ability to organise schedule to suit differing tastes. The main highlights? The people - particularly in Afghanistan. They really touch your heart with their humility and smiles... Mountain scenery... offroad 'top gear' driving in Afghanistan and the journey back along the Panj river in Tajikistan... Vibrant colours... sleeping in homestays... beauty and remoteness in the Wakhan with starry filled skies... the Bazaar in Ishkashim - like going back in time and full of great characters.

Afghanistan!!! What a beautiful place, the majesty of the mountains, raging rivers, superb scenery!... This was my second time in Afghanistan. The first was cultural, this was of the land and people.... If you go there, the country will haunt you with its complexity, its beauty and other worldliness until you return!

I had a fantastic time in Afghanistan, it is surprisingly beautiful and a far cry indeed from the media image portrayed.

If you want an excellent holiday with a difference and away from the riff raff of the Costa, go to Afghanistan you'll never regret it. Thank you Wild Frontiers.

I normally prefer to travel independently and alone however I felt that this was not an option for my first visit to Afghanistan. Wild Frontiers assembled a pretty disparate group comprising seven paying guests plus a British tour leader. The company has good contacts in Afghanistan and through these we were supplied with three vehicles plus drivers along with the services of a well informed and connected local guide. As a result, I felt that we were able to extract the maximum from our 18 day trip through the northern half of this war torn country. It was hot and dusty. The landscape was stunning, the Afghanis welcoming, the whole experience enlightening. Most trips are forgotten with a couple of weeks. Not a day passes without reflection on this visit. I shall return in 2006.

"I can never forget the delights of Kabul, nor express the depth of my longing to return” – Babur. Afghanistan, my dream for so many years, was finally realised thanks to superb organisation and security, courtesy of Muqim’s Afghan Logistics. We walked in the footsteps of Byron, Newby, countless writers and paid homage to the ‘Lion of Panjshir,’ Massoud in the exquisite Panjshir valley under starlit skies like I’ve never seen, meeting Eric Newby’s retainer Badar Khan. The breathtaking beauty of Bamiyan, Band-i Amir lakes, Balkh and Herat left me gasping. The famous Afghan hospitality and sense of history is all-pervasive, true ‘tingle factor’. Never has a country so completely entranced me. The contacts WF stumps up every time are incomparable. Yes, you can visit and my return is already planned.
