Why Libya? Colourful history; wonderful Punic and Roman sites; fantastic mosaics; knowledgeable local guides; a dozen different types of desert in the Sahara; driving over sand dunes, rock plains and everything in between in ancient Land Cruisers, accompanied by lilting Tuareg music; hospitable Tuareg guides and drivers; camping in the desert; prehistoric cave and wall paintings and carvings; swimming in oases; the superb national museum in Tripoli, exquisite Tuareg jewellery, luscious dates, spice markets and nuts. Jonny B provided seemingly effortless leadership and for a recce trip it worked remarkably well. The other travellers were great company. We can recommend going there but soon, before mass tourism arrives, and of course with Wild Frontiers.
